Surprise, surprise! :-) I was testing something on 11.0 and had to boot
the old virtual machine so I decided to see if latest apcupsd would still
build on it. It does, so maybe someone will find this useful.
Is anyone still using 11.0 in any scenario where some of these packages
would be useful in an upgraded version? If so, send mail to me - I
*might* can be coerced into doing some upgrades...
apcupsd-3.14.8-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded.

Tue Aug 21 15:59:18 UTC 2007
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but due to the amount of non-linux
responsibilities in my life right now, you should not expect any future
updates in this directory. I will continue to maintain (most of) my
current package set for 12.0, but with a limited amount of time to spend
on things, priorities have to be set. As it stands, those priorities
will be Slackware -current development, SlackBuilds.org, and my personal
repository of 12.0 packages. Thanks for understanding; please consider
using (if you don't already) Eric Hameleers' packages for 11.0, which are
located at http://slackware.com/~alien/ --rworkman
+--------------------------+
Sun Jul 1 22:30:42 CDT 2007
Slackware 12.0 is released! That being the case, the updates to these "old"
11.0 packages will likely decrease in frequency, but I'll do my best.
For those of you just arriving here and interested in running Xfce 4.4.x
on 11.0, I encourage you to upgrade to Slackware 12.0, but if you insist
on using 11.0, be sure to read the README-Xfce in this directory.

Good luck with it, Rich, and let me know how it works :-)

openoffice.org-2.2.1_en_US-i586-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt to fix a stupid
error on my part - as part of my testing on this, I had commented out
the line in the build script that corrects file ownership, and I
forgot to uncomment it when building the *real* package, so the file
ownership of most package contents was 786:261. Sincere apologies for
that, and big thanks to Jean-Francois Blavier for the heads-up.

dbus-1.0.2-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Changed 'dbus' user back to 'messagebus' user.
I should have never changed this, but at the time, it seemed like a good
way to squelch complaints that the uid (rather than 'messagebus') was
showing up in 'ps' output. Since Slackware 12.0 will be using 'messagebus'
I'll be doing the same to ease the upgrade transition for users.
I plan to have dbus-glib updated to the new release before this week is over,
for those who are curious... :-)

For those of you who've upgraded to the new Xfce-4.4.1 package, you might

testing/openoffice.org-2.2rc4/openoffice.org-2.2.0rc4_en_US-i586-1_rlw.tgz:
Upgraded to Release Candidate 4 - this includes an updated version of

covered in this build as well. If I understand correctly, the final build
of OOo-2.2.0 is slated to release tomorrow.

Thu Mar 22 05:18:49 UTC 2007
dbus-1.0.2-i486-2_rlw.tgz: This package expects the messagebus service to
run as the "dbus" user instead of "messagebus." This fixes the annoying
problem with the service being shown by gid instead of name in ps output.
This is apparently an issue with glibc. Thanks to Dagmar for the pointer.
Here's the process to upgrade seamlessly:
1. Edit /etc/passwd and /etc/group to change the name of the "messagebus"
user and group accounts to be named "dbus" - don't forget to fix it in
/etc/shadow and /etc/gpasswd too.
1a. If you don't want to edit the files directly, you can always do a
'userdel' on the accounts and recreate them according to the earlier
instructions in README-Xfce.
2. Move /etc/dbus-1/system.conf.new over to /etc/dbus-1/system.conf
Normally a rebuild of the dbus-glib package would be required when dbus is
rebuilt, but I cheated this time - rather than rebuilding it from source,
I just extracted the package, made changes manually, and repackged it with
a new BUILD identifier.

testing/bon-echo/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.2-i486-1_rlw.tgz: This is a source

the result of some discussion on ##slackware@freenode about the potential
of Firefox being less memory-hungry when built with -Os, so I decided to
find out. This is more of a curiosity thing than anything else, but
feedback is welcome... :)

testing/kmail-gpg/gnupg2-2.0.2-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt with --infodir=/usr/info
corrected - after noticing this in the libksba build (fixed on 20070302),
I thought I should go back and check the others. Apparently the early
beta builds either did not make info pages or they put them in PREFIX/info
(or of course, maybe I just screwed up :), but I do find it odd that I
missed four different apps... :/ Oh well, stranger things have happened...
On the subject of gnupg, there should be a security update coming soon -
it's been announced on the gnupg development list, but there's not an

xfce4-goodies/xfce4-mount-plugin-0.5.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version
0.5.0 of the mount plugin. The new version includes the ability to
"blacklist" specific filesystems so that they don't show up as options to
be mounted/unmounted. This should simplify things for sysadmins who are
using the mount plugin as a way for new users to mount flash drives and
such. Thanks to Fabian Nowak (the plugin maintainer) for implementing this.

OOo-2.2.0 is slated to release on 27 February, and I'd like to have a

as long as the build script is in good shape now, it will be fine then.

xfce-4.4.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to Xfce-4.4.0. There are quite a few
noteworthy changes in this build, so be sure to keep reading :)
1. This package requires the vte, dbus, dbus-glib, and gamin packages
that are also available from this repository - I am no longer going
to maintain two different builds of Xfce, so if you want a version
that runs on a vanilla 11.0 installation, the SlackBuild script and
sources are available.
2. You will need to make sure the the messagebus service is started prior
to launching Xfce - see the dbus package's information for how to do
that.
3. Back up your $HOME/.config directory before starting Xfce - the old 4.2.x
configuration is not fully compatible with that of 4.4.x, so you will not
be able to go back to Xfce-4.2.x and keep your configs unless you back
them up.
4. Be sure to run 'xwmconfig' *before* starting Xfce after upgrading - this
will copy the new xinitrc file into your $HOME/.xinitrc
5. The xarchiver archive manager that was present in the previous rc/beta
versions was not shipped with 4.4.0 due to questions as to whether it
was ready - did volkerdi join the Xfce development team? ;-)

Also, I've put sources for seamonkey-1.1 in my sources directory, but due to
the fact that I'm unclear about the redistribution of binaries, I'm not
providing a package for it at this time. I will say that if you use the
seamonkey browser, it's probably worth your time to try out this update -
it seems *much* faster to start up than the older version.

xfce4-goodies/xfce4-dict-plugin-0.2.1-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added a dictionary

testing/vbox/bcc-0.16.15-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added Bruce Evans' C Compiler package.
As of right now, this package has not been tested here *at* *all* - I'm still
working on the other packages required to even attempt to build virtualbox.
testing/vbox/iasl-compiler-20061109-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added Intel's ASL compiler.
This package has also not been tested (for the same reasons as above).

hplip-1.6.12-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added hplip-1.6.12. I don't normally host
packages of applications that are provided by official Slackware packages,
but since the original build script was mine and it needed some cleanup,
plus the Slackware package is in /testing, I thought this might be worthy
of an exception.

to change BUILD variable and a few other minor things).
testing/newer-udev/udev-104-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to udev-104. This
new rc.udev script now respect $udev_root defined in udev.conf, and
all references to 2.4 kernel are removed. This package has two fixes
for bugs that were present in PiterPunk's original sources; he should
be issuing updates on his site soon.

the heads-up on the new version.
xfce-4.4rc2-i486-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt and split vte out of the package. You
will need to install the vte package (see below) for some parts of this
package to continue working (Terminal comes to mind).
vte-0.15-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added vte-0.15 (split from xfce).
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_gamin-i486-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt and split vte out

upgrading the xfce package.
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_dbus-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Removed. I need no good
reason to keep this package around, as anyone interested in testing dbus
and dbus-glib dependent packages is also likely interested in gamin support
too. If you previously had this package installed, please upgrade to the
gamin-dependent package above and install the gamin package from testing.

testing/openoffice.org/openoffice.org-2.1.0-i586-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to the
new 2.1.0 version. This build has received very limited testing thus far,
so I'm hesitant to release it into the main package repo; however, the few

On the sysvinit package, no new build is necessary; his latest changes were
already in my package.

testing/newer-udev/*: Rebuilt all packages to reflect PiterPunk's changes at
http://piterpunk.info02.com.br/extra/ - note that the BUILD numbers for his
packages and mine may not always be consistent. There are some notable
differences between his sysvinit package and mine (there were two minor bugs
in his build script, as he forgot to merge all of my changes needed from
sysvinit-2.84 to 2.86, but they should be fixed in his repo soon).
Be sure to merge all of the *.new files (rc.M.new, rc.S.new, rc.udev.new),
and to ensure integrity of the testing process, you probably want to delete
any existing rules files in /etc/udev/rules.d/ (but don't delete any custom
rules files or the libnjb, libmtp, and libsane rules files).

I've been in conversation with PiterPunk about his work on newer udev, and
he's hoping to post some test packages of dbus, dbus-glib, dbus-qt3, hal,
and pmount to offer full hotplug and automounting capabilities of kde with
udev. If/when that happens, expect changes here as well.
dbus-1.0.1-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to dbus-1.0.1 - be sure to move the
/etc/rc.d/rc.messagebus.new and /etc/dbus-1/system.conf.new into place
before rebooting or this will not work for you.
dbus-glib-0.72-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against dbus-1.0.1.
gaim-2.0.0beta5-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to gaim-2.0.0beta5.

testing/newer-udev/*: Added some packages based on PiterPunk's work (see
http://piterpunk.info02.com.br/extra/ for more information). Among my
changes are the following:
1. Some minor script changes to accommodate my OCD :)
2. sysvinit version 2.86 instead of 2.84; this will need lots of testing
before Pat will even consider making it official, so please test and
give feedback.

else was rebuilt.
I had planned to have some rebuilt packages of Xfce 4.4rc2 posted (with an
updated xarchiver and a bugfix patch to xfdesktop, but the xfdesktop patch
exposed another bug (icon position wasn't remembered across sessions), so
it will have to wait.

wine-0.9.25-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine-0.9.25. This package was built
with OpenGL enabled and against fontforge, so it should have all of the
fonts expected. You do not need the fontforge package installed to use this
wine package.
xfce-4.4rc2-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt using --with-sound=alsa to fix a bug in
which the mixer didn't work properly (or at all). I'm not sure when this
problem first appeared (rc1? beta2?) or why it appeared (differences in
alsa headers from 2.4.x to 2.6.x kernels?), but regardless, it works now.
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_dbus-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt to fix the mixer.

Wed Nov 15 03:59:30 UTC 2006
dbus-1.0.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to dbus-1.0. It's taken a bit of trial
and error to get an init script that works properly (no, it wasn't
difficult - I was overlooking the obvious), but it seems fine on two
different machines here. A couple of things worth mentioning here:
1. Be sure to create the "messagebus" user and group prior to installing
or upgrading this package; it won't burn anything if you don't, but
you will get an error message during the installation (with directions
on what to do next) :) See the README.txt in the dbus SlackBuild
directory for more info.
2. Be sure to merge/replace the .new files (look in /etc/dbus-1 and
/etc/rc.d) if you're upgrading; this will *not* work with the old
ones in place.
dbus-glib-0.72-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against dbus-1.0.
+--------------------------+
Mon Nov 13 04:15:14 UTC 2006
testing/kmail-gpg/gnupg2-2.0.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 2.0.0 of
GnuPG. GnuPG 2.0 is the stable version of GnuPG integrating support for
OpenPGP and S/MIME. It does not conflict with an installed 1.4 OpenPGP-only
version.

Wed Nov 8 19:29:20 UTC 2006
xfce-4.4rc2-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt with a patch I backported from svn to fix
the missing icons for 'Printer Settings' in the Settings Manager. I forgot
to include the necessary Makefile changes in the patch, so I had to install
the icons manually in the build script, but that's doesn't make a difference
in the final package (just thought it worth mentioning). I've said all of
this before, but it's worth another reminder just in case:
1) If you're upgrading/installing this package for the first time, be
advised that the xfce-4.2.x config is not completely compatible with
4.4; you are strongly encouraged to back up ~/.config and ~/.local
before installing xfce-4.4rc2.
2) This also applies if you're installing/upgrading for the first time:
be sure to run /usr/bin/xwmconfig prior to restarting xfce.
I've received another report about the mixer not working properly unless
xfce is built with --with-alsa passed to configure. This should be auto-
detected, but since I've got another report, I'll be investigating that
more fully now.
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_dbus-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; same caveats as
above.
testing/gamin/gamin-0.1.8-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added - Gamin is a file and directory
monitoring system defined to be a subset of the FAM (File Alteration Monitor)
system. As stated below, I'm still not getting consistent results, but I
think it's worth some testing.
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_gamin-i486-2_rlw.tgz: This is built against the
gamin package mentioned above; this should allow xfdesktop to notice when
files have been moved into or out of ~/Desktop and refresh the view as
needed. In my testing here, the results are unpredictable, but I think it's
good enough for some others to test it out (and hopefully figure out what
I'm missing).

Tue Nov 7 14:38:11 UTC 2006
bluefish-1.0.7-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 1.0.7. The path to the
man pages is fixed, and the package now updates the desktop and mime
databases on install/upgrade.
scribus-1.3.3.4-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added scribus-1.3.3.4, a desktop publishing
application. Thanks to dadexter and Yalla-One for the build script on
this one.
testing/kmail-gpg/gnupg2-1.9.95-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 1.9.95.
According to Werner Koch, this should be the last version before 2.0 is
released! Thanks to him and all of the other gpg developers for their
hard work.
On the subject of the xfce 4.4rc2 package, there is a known bug where the
XFPrint Icon doesn't show up in the Settings menu; it's fixed in svn,
and I'm going to try and get a new build up tomorrow, but I can't make
any promises - I've got some other things going on right now... Either
way, it will be fixed in the next release (which will probably be 4.4).

gqview-2.1.4-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to gqview 2.1.4.
+--------------------------+
Mon Nov 6 01:41:28 UTC 2006
xfce-4.4rc2-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to Release Candidate 2. Thanks to all of
the Xfce developers for their hard work on this. A few notes on this build:
1) The included vte version is upgraded to 0.14.1.
2) Packages of dbus and dbus-glib are no longer required.
3) Due to #2, only minimized application icons on the desktop are
supported; launchers, trash, and other desktop icons are no longer
possible without dbus. See below if you want this functionality.
4) I have received a report that the mixer doesn't work properly on
generic-smp-2.6.17.13 kernel unless --with-sound=alsa is passed to
configure. If anyone can reproduce that on the latest build, please
advise and I'll investigate it further.
5) You will need to run "/usr/bin/xwmconfig" after upgrading the package
and select Xfce as your preferred window manager. This is to ensure
that your $HOME/.xinitrc is updated with the new version; otherwise,
some things won't work properly.
6) The Xfce ChangeLog from rc1 to rc2 is here:
http://mocha.xfce.org/release_notes/4.4rc2_changelog.html
xfce4-goodies/thunar-archive-plugin-0.2.2-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version
0.2.2.
xfce4-goodies/xfce4-battery-plugin-0.4.90.3-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version
0.4.90.3.
xfce4-goodies/xfce4-mpc-plugin-0.2.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added the MusicPD client
plugin for the Xfce panel.
xfce4-goodies/*: Everything else was rebuilt against Xfce 4.4rc2.
testing/xfce-4.4/xfce-4.4rc2_dbus-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added an rc2 build against
dbus and dbus-glib for those who want it. Most (if not all) of the bugs in
4.4rc1 related to dbus should be fixed now, so if you want the dbus features,
this should be safe enough.
+--------------------------+
Wed Nov 1 04:05:59 UTC 2006
testing/kmail-gpg/libassuan-1.0.0-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 1.0.0.
There were no code changes since the last release (only cleanups), according
to Werner Koch of the GnuPG development team, so there shouldn't be any need
to recompile any of the other stuff. Thanks again to Werner and all of the
developers for their hard work.

Thu Oct 26 23:47:59 UTC 2006
MPlayer-1.0rc1-custom-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 1.0rc1. This new version
of MPlayer doesn't want to build if I specify the usual CFLAGS, so I had to
build it as the devs recommend (allow configure to automatically detect the
proper CFLAGS). As such, this package may not run properly (or at all) if
you don't have a P4 machine.

Here's a string of rebuilds and upgrades for 11.0. All of the packages
that had been built on -current obviously worked fine on 11.0, but
blame my OCD... :)
MPlayer-1.0pre8-i686-2rlw.tgz: Removed. I didn't see a demand for
this package built for 686 architecture, so it's gone...
MPlayer-1.0pre8-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt on Slackware 11.0.
acroread-7.0.8-i386-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt after some miscellaneous script
cleanup.
openbabel-2.0.2-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt after some miscellaneous script
cleanup.
wine-0.9.23-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt with fontforge installed. If this
creates any runtime dependency for fontforge, please let me know as
soon as possible. In the meantime, the {-1_rlw} build will stay on
the server. Thanks to MagicMan for the recommendation to build with
fontforge.
xdrawchem-1.9.9-i486-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt after some miscellaneous script
cleanup.
testing/fontforge/fontforge-20061014-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added fontforge.
According to MagicMan, this should enable wine to build some extra
fonts during compile time; some games (PokerStars?) need these extra
fonts. So far as I can tell, building wine with this package installed

Debian fork of cdrtools. CMake is not a run-time dependency, so you
won't need it unless you plan to build cdrkit from source.

openoffice.org-2.0.4-i586-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. I patched the included
.desktop files to work around the Xfce bug mentioned below since it
won't be fixed for 4.4.
+--------------------------+
Sat Oct 14 01:20:20 UTC 2006
This is another of those 'information-only' updates. After further
investigation, it seems as if the problem mentioned below is only
present in Xfce 4.4 development versions - it works fine in kde
and gnome. Of course, it could turn out to be completely unrelated,
but for now, see http://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2430 for
more information.

testing/openoffice.org/openoffice.org-2.0.4rc3-i586-1_rlw.tgz: Removed.
See below.
openoffice.org-2.0.4-i586-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to version 2.0.4. I've
received a bug report already from the rc3 build that was posted
(thanks to MagicMan) advising that the menu entries created by the
included .desktop files do not open the office component they are
supposed to open (only the office 'shell' is opened), but I still
haven't figured out why. I would have held off on the upgrade,
but this behavior is also present in the 2.0.3 build I had, so I don't
see any good reason to postpone this. I can easily fix it, but it
involves modifying the default installation more than I'd like, so
if someone can figure it out before I do, please let me know.
Enjoy!

is likely similar to what Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird offer), but
I am uncertain as to whether it will work (or is even desirable) for
repackaged builds like this one. Also, there is some new kde integration
built in now; if I understand it correctly, it should now honor your
user-specific kde settings related to proxy configuration and default
email client. Feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

testing/kdebase-3.5.4-i486-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt using the official SlackBuild
script and related file on the Slackware mirrors. Technically, this was
not necessary, as the only change from BUILD=3_rlw was fixing the bug in

and replace the kde.csh file with the one from the Slackware sources, then
you'll have BUILD=4_rlw. :)

testing/kdepim-3.5.4-i486-3_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt.
+--------------------------+
Mon Sep 25 02:44:19 UTC 2006
Due to new releases of two of these, I decided to rebuild all of them.
The only one that I'm certain wasn't necessary is libgpg-error, but
since a lot of code changes went into gnupg2's upgrade, and some of
it still not in sync with the dependencies (see the SlackBuild script
for the workaround - thanks to Werner Koch of the gnupg devel team),
I thought it safest to go ahead and rebuild everything from the ground
up. Based on my testing here, the existing kdebase and kdepim packages
in this directory still work just fine, so it's not necessary to upgrade
those. However, I have built new packages of both kdebase and kdepim
which include a patch to fix the broken media:/ issue - they should
(hopefully) be uploaded tomorrow at some point.

This is just a reminder that you need to start gpg-agent before kde is
started. See the ChangeLog entry from September 20th for information
on how to do that. The only significant change to it is that you can
ignore the information about starting it from /etc/profile.d/ - it seems
that entries in /etc/profile.d/ are sourced from every instance of konsole,
so multiple instances of the agent will be started. Unless something
changes, getting gpg-agent started is going to require some manual user
intervention. In the grand scheme of things, I really don't see a problem
with that, as anyone intending to use gpg is going to have to manually do
quite a few things anyway, and there's no sense in having the gpg-agent
running by default unless the user needs it. On that note, if you are not
happy with the default caching time of the agent, see the output of
gpg-agent --help for information on modifying it via a startup flag.

testing/kdepim-3.5.4-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Moved from testing/kde (see below)
testing/kde/*: Removed. These packages are not necessary to upgrade or
install to test the new gpg stuff.
If you're testing these packages, you will need to make sure gpg-agent is
started before kde is started, or else kgpg will not be able to detect
that it's running. You can either start it manually from the command
line with "eval `gpg-agent --daemon` prior to starting kde, add that
line to your $HOME/.bash_profile, or make a script like 'gpgagent.sh'
in your $HOME/.kde/env/ directory:
#!/bin/sh
eval `/usr/bin/gpg-agent --daemon`
You'll probably want a corresponding script to kill the agent in your
$HOME/.kde/shutdown directory.
Zalmon Gershon (Zalamander) is also looking into using a script in
/etc/profile.d so that gpg-agent will be running all the time - this
will come in handy for those who use KMail in another window manager
or gpg from the console; thanks, Zal! :)
Thanks also to shasta for the hints about using $HOME/.kde/{env,shutdown}
to start things up automatically with kde.

hplip-1.6.9-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to hplip-1.6.9
xfce-4.4rc1-i486-4_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against yesterday's -current tree.
This package no longer includes desktop-file-utils bundled with it,
as Pat added that package to -current. Also, this package now includes
an /etc/X11/sessions/xfce4.desktop file so that xfce4 will show up as a
valid window manager session from gnome's desktop manager (gdm). The
xfce4.desktop file included with the kdebase package works fine with kdm,
so we won't bother it.
Due to some minor bugs (which I've reported and will be fixed in svn), I
will not be building new packages related to the kmail/gpg integration
project - we'll wait for gnupg2-1.9.24, I suppose.

Pat just added desktop-file-utils to -current, so I'll be rebuilding
the xfce package tonight without that package embedded in it.
The gnupg development team released version 1.9.23 of gnupg2 today,
so I'll also be building that tonight. This should be a good update,
as all of the code from the stable 1.4.5 gnupg release has been merged
into the development version, so this package can now be used as a
complete replacement for the old gnupg (bear in mind that it's still
not recommended, however).

These are the first results of my ongoing project to get kmail and
gpg playing nice together. They may not make a difference at all,
and while they certainly shouldn't hurt anything, I make no promises
of any kind. The only important note I can think of at the moment
is this - don't upgrade the gunpg package with this gnupg2 - install
it alongside the current gnupg package.
I'm hoping to have new kde packs built against these soon.

xfce-4.4rc1-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against dbus and dbus-glib.
I hated to do this, but right now, it's the path of least resistance,
so I'm sorry... I'm hoping that the rc2 release will address the issue
of whether dbus is *really* supposed to be required, but for now, we'll
work with what we have. There are at least two important pieces of
information that you need to keep in mind:
First, install the dbus and dbus-glib packages from here. Make sure
you follow the instructions for dbus here:
http://slackbuilds.rlworkman.net/dbus/README.txt
Second, there have been lots of reports on the xfce mailing list about
xfdesktop crashes related to dbus, and I've played around with both
the old version of dbus (0.62) which included the glib bindings as
well as the new version (0.91) and separate glib bindings. I get
the same behavior with either version, so I went ahead and built this
against the newer dbus and dbus-glib packages.
Let's all hope that this will be resolved in the next release candidate.
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060905-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against the new xfce build.
Also, the messenger plugin has been added since we can now build it against
dbus.
dbus-0.91-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Added dbus, a message bus for interprocess
communication among applications.
dbus-glib-0.71-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Added dbus-glib, the glib bindings for dbus.
+--------------------------+
Wed Sep 6 01:05:45 UTC 2006
This is an "information only" update. I have had lots of questions about
this new xfce 4.4 rc1 build on IRC, so it's probably prudent to try
and answer them here.
There were some fairly major changes in the xfdesktop source between
beta2 and rc1, including a new Trash icon for the desktop that depends
on dbus-glib libraries. When this was added, it was not coded in such
a way as to make it possible to build xfdesktop without dbus unless the
entire desktop icon functionality is eliminated. I won't quote the
relevant parts of the source code, but have a look at src/main.c and
src/xfdesktop-special-file-icon.c files for more information. While
I can read C well enough to understand that it's not currently possible
to build xfdesktop *with* thunar-vfs and *without* dbus-glib, I do *not*
know it well enough to change this behavior. Unfortunately, Brian (the
xfdesktop developer) is on holiday until 10 September, so it won't be
addressed until then.
On the bright side, Jannis Pohlman (another xfce dev) assures me that the
issue will be fixed one way or the other in the next rc/final release.
This might mean that it will build without dbus and with thunar-vfs (and
therefore allowing desktop icons again, but not the special trash icon),
or it might mean that dbus-glib is a hard dependency. Until/unless the
latter option occurs, I will not be publishing default builds dependent
upon dbus.
However, I have received enough feedback from individuals requesting a build
linked against dbus that I'm almost certainly going to give that a go.
Give me a few days (probably at least a week or so) to work out the
details on dbus implementation, and I'll see about maintaining two
different builds of xfce packages.
My graduate school classes start back up this Thursday night (7 September),
and I'm also trying to fix KMail/GnuPG email decryption in Slackware,
so this might take a bit longer than we'd all like - be patient, please!
:-)
Finally, thanks to everyone for their continued support and encouragement;
your feedback is really appreciated. My goal with maintaining these
packages is to have all the kinks worked out for Pat when he decides to
upgrade this in post-11.0 Slackware -current... :)
+--------------------------+
Mon Sep 4 18:38:11 UTC 2006
xfce-4.4rc1-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to xfce 4.4rc1.
Unfortunately, dbus is now a hard dependency, and it has a few other
ramifications of installing it, so I elected to disable all the
features dependent on it; as such, desktop icon support is no longer
available in this build. If Pat decides to add dbus to -current
after 11.0 releases, then I'll rebuild with dbus support; otherwise,
unless I get overwhelming feedback requesting this functionality,
I'm not going to enable it. Even so, I'm not going to bundle dbus
inside this package; it will be offered as a separate package, as
there's a strong possibility that Pat will add it to -current after
11.0 along with HAL, since kde also wants to have those two around.

xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-7_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. The included xarchiver was upgraded
to version 0.4.0.
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060902-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. This new build includes
the following changes:
Added thunar-media-tags plugin
Added sensors plugin
Added xmms plugin
Updated battery plugin to 0.4.90.2
Updated weather plugin to 0.5.90.2
This adds some functionality that was not present before and fixes
several of the problems people were having with the older versions
of battery and weather plugins.
openoffice.org-2.0.3-i486-6_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. This was built with an updated
script (http://slackbuilds.rlworkman.net/openoffice.org) with quite a few
changes. We now use the *.desktop files included with the binaries instead
of our own, and we no longer add or modify /etc/mailcap and /etc/mime.types,
as those were of questionable benefit anyway. See the README in the
slackbuilds directory linked above for more information, but I've reached the
conclusion that it's not currently possible to set OOo as a system-wide
default for MS Office files - this must be handled on a per-user basis.
As always, I welcome input that proves me wrong (and I hope I am), but
freedesktop.org seems to agree with me :)
I have a mozilla-firefox-2.0b2-i686-1_rlw.tgz package, but I had a typo
in firefox.diff.gz patch that causes the plugins directory to not be
found, so I'm not posting it yet. The SlackBuild script that's posted
at http://slackbuilds.rlworkman.net/mozilla-firefox/ is correct, and
it's binary repackaging anyway, so you're just as well off to build it
yourself with that script. As of right now, all of the extensions that
I use won't work with the new beta (even after modifying the install.rdf
file), so don't plan on using your favorite extensions with it. As always,
make sure you back up your profile directory ($HOME/.mozilla) before using
an experimental build.

man page included with the source. I have no idea how I missed those for
so long... :/
+--------------------------+
Wed Aug 23 14:48:45 UTC 2006
apcupsd-3.12.4-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to apcupsd 3.12.4
+--------------------------+
Tue Aug 22 13:41:17 UTC 2006
xfce4-goodies-4.2_20060324-i486-1rlw.tgz: Removed. This package uses a
horrible SlackBuild script (yes, I wrote it, so I can say that), so
until/unless I can find time to rewrite it (which will certainly be
after 11.0 releases), it's gone from here.
+--------------------------+
Mon Aug 14 22:51:28 UTC 2006
ulogd-1.24-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. This fixes an oversight on my part in
the original package - I somehow missed the fact that ulogd was installing
libraries to /usr/local/lib. From now on, this package will also no longer
clobber config files.
+--------------------------+
Mon Aug 14 21:14:26 UTC 2006
apcupsd-3.12.3-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. This fixes several problems with the
original package, not the least of which being that it would clobber existing
configuration files in /etc/apcupsd on upgrade. This package no longer
installs rc.M.new to /etc/rc.d, so you'll need to edit that file manually
(see /usr/doc/apcupsd-3.12.3/README for instructions).
chemtool-1.6.9-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against new libpng.
gqview-2.1.1-i486-2_rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against new libpng.
icewm-1.2.27-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to icewm 1.2.27.
LimeWire-4.12.4-i686-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to LimeWire 4.12.4.
wine-0.9.19-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine 0.9.19.
+--------------------------+
Mon Aug 14 00:16:22 UTC 2006
gimpshop-2.2.10-i486-1rlw.tgz: Removed. This package was out-of-date,
I don't use it, and there was very little interest according to web stats,
so it's gone. :)
I've got icewm 1.2.27, wine 0.9.19, and apcupsd 3.12.3 rebuild on my TODO
list, so they'll hopefully be up sometime tomorrow...
+--------------------------+
Sun Aug 13 20:11:15 UTC 2006
hplip-1.6.7-i486-1_rlw.tgz: Upgraded to hplip 1.6.7.
+--------------------------+
Wed Aug 9 15:56:21 UTC 2006
cups-1.2.2-i486-2rlw.tgz: Removed; this is now part of the official Slackware
-current tree.
+--------------------------+
Mon Aug 7 22:46:15 UTC 2006
udev-094-i486-1rlw.tgz: Removed; udev-096 is now part of the official Slackware
-current tree!!
sysvinit-2.86-i486-5rlw.tgz: Removed; related to above note about udev-094.
This will likely be added back later as soon as I can syncronize the init
scripts in -current with those in my tree. This (sysvinit 2.86) will need a
*lot* of testing before Pat will even consider upgrading it, due to some
well-hidden "gotchas" in a previous attempt to mainline sysvinit 2.85, so as
soon as I get it back up, testing is encouraged...
+--------------------------+
Sat Aug 5 16:12:09 UTC 2006
sysfsutils-2.0.0-i486-2rlw.tgz: Removed; this package was added to the official
Slackware package set, so it's no longer needed here.
+--------------------------+
Thu Aug 3 21:03:25 UTC 2006
sysvinit-2.86-i486-5rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; fixed a typographical error in rc.S
(missing / in /proc/filesystems). This package incorporates all of the
recent improvements from -current into PiterPunk's init scripts for newer
udev and friends.
+--------------------------+
Thu Aug 3 19:56:45 UTC 2006
It's Christmas in August! New kde packs in -current, and now the xfce build
here should be working as intended by its developers - see below :)
xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-5rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; removed hicolor-icon-theme, as it's not
needed any more due to the xinitrc changes in the previous build.
Added desktop-file-utils, which fixes the problem Thunar was having with
associated file types with applications. Thunar should now be working
completely as intended by the developer. :)
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060803-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded the verve-plugin package to
version 0.3.4; this is a bugfix release.
sysvinit-2.86-i486-4rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; incorporated Pat's changes from yesterday
in -current. I've got to track down a potential problem with an error
message being generated in rc.S (related to /proc/filesystems), so hold off
on this upgrade unless you're brave (although it's working fine here).
wine-0.9.18-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine 0.9.18.
wine-0.9.17-i686-1rlw.tgz: Removed; there was no demand for the i686 build,
so there's no sense keeping it up :)
+--------------------------+
Wed Aug 2 18:13:26 UTC 2006
cups-1.2.2-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; the previous build refused to work due to
the slang 2 upgrade (according to the error message, anyway), even with
slang1 installed.
qt-3.3.6-i486-2rlw.tgz: Removed. This was a patched qt to fix a problem
where the kmenu would spawn incorrectly, but it was built against older
libpng, and anyway, demand for it was not very high. If someone still
wants it, let me know and I'll rebuild it.
+--------------------------+
Wed Aug 2 06:20:58 UTC 2006
sysvinit-2.86-i486-3rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; merged Pat's most recent changes
(including /etc/initab this time) :) Complete sources have moved to
http://slackbuilds.rlworkman.net/sysvinit/
+--------------------------+
Fri Jul 28 01:41:22 UTC 2006
sysvinit-2.86-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; merged the relevant diffs from
Pat's changes (as of 20060727) to the init scripts. Complete sources (to
include the SlackBuild script) are here:
http://slackpacks.rlworkman.net/current/sysvinit_source.tar.gz
+--------------------------+
Thu Jul 27 19:39:47 UTC 2006
xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-4rlw.tgz: Rebuilt. I've finally managed to fix the problem
with icons for kde applications not being displayed, but I haven't decided
whether to call it a true fix or a kludge... :)
First, I patched the /usr/bin/startxfce4 script to include /opt/kde/share
in the XDG_DATA_DIRS declaration. On its own, this does not help, as
the 4.2.x xfce version included in Slackware does not use this script to
start xfce. Second, I'm including a custom xinitrc file (simply a wrapper
for startxfce4) because, for whatever reason, the xinitrc file included with
xfce doesn't set several environment variables (including XDG_DATA_DIRS,
which is the cause of the kde app icon problem). The startxfce4 script
included in /usr/bin references the /etc/X11/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc included with
xfce, so this seems to be the intended order. If a user wishes to customize
what occurs in ~/.xinitrc, the better option is to copy the xfce included
xinitrc into $HOME/.config/xfce4/xinitrc and edit that copy, as the
startxfce4 script will reference it if it exists instead of the
system-wide default. It might be a better idea to link /usr/bin/startxfce4
to /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.xfce instead of including a wrapper for it, but
I'm not sure how that will interact with users starting up in runlevel 4
(for that matter, I'm not sure how my current changes will impact it, so
if anyone can share success/failure notices, please do).
Finally, after upgrading this version of xfce, you will need to re-run
/usr/bin/xwmconfig so that the new xinitrc.xfce is copied into your $HOME
as .xinitrc.
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060726-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt with same sources as the
previous build; this almost certainly wasn't necessary, but I did it out
of habit, so here you go :)
openbabel-2.0.2-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to openbabel 2.0.2
bluefish-1.0.5-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt to link against new libpng.
According to ldd, it still looks for the .0 link, so I'm not sure what
I actually accomplished though... :/
hplip-1.6.6a-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt to link against new libpng.
Same caveat as with bluefish above, though.
+--------------------------+
Wed Jul 26 18:39:03 UTC 2006
xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-3rlw.tgz: Rebuilt to link against newer libpng in today's
-current. I've still got a problem with the icons for kde applications not
showing up in the xfce menu; it seems like xfce doesn't know to look in
/opt/kde/share/icons for them. I'm continuing to look into it, but as
always, cluesticks are appreciated... :)
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060726-i486-1rlw.tgz: Rebuilt due to the libpng upgrade
and xfce rebuild.
+--------------------------+
Mon Jul 24 18:45:07 UTC 2006
cups-1.2.2-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to cups 1.2.2
+--------------------------+
Wed Jul 19 13:48:05 UTC 2006
acroread-7.0.8-i386-3rlw.tgz: Fixed symlink to the icon in /usr/share/pixmaps
+--------------------------+
Tue Jul 18 20:48:17 UTC 2006
krusader-1.70.1-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to krusader 1.70.1.
In addition to several normal bugfixes, this also fixes an issue where
passwords could be stored in cleartext in bookmarks.xml
(* Security fix *)
openoffice.org-2.0.3-i586-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt with modified build script to
(hopefully) fix some reported issues with mimetype declarations and symlinks
in the script. Thanks to Diego Rodriquez and Chris Willing for the reports.
If you experience problems with this new build, the old (BUILD=1rlw) one
will be left in this directory for a few days...
+--------------------------+
Tue Jul 18 14:16:11 UTC 2006
wine-0.9.17-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine 0.9.17.
wine-0.9.17-i686-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine 0.9.17; this package is built with
-march=i686 CFLAGS.
hplip-1.6.6a-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to HPLIP 1.6.6a.
acroread-7.0.8-i386-2rlw.tgz: Added Adobe Acrobat Reader package.
+--------------------------+
Thu Jul 13 13:59:36 UTC 2006
xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-2rlw.tgz: Rebuilt; added hicolor icon theme from
freedesktop.org - this fixes some of the missing icon issues, but kde app
icons are still not showing up in the menus. The included version
of vte was upgraded to 0.13.3 to fix some problems with Terminal. Also,
a patch backported from svn is included to fix a crash bug.
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060712-i486-1rlw.tgz: Rebuilt against Build 2 of
xfce-4.3.90.2 (some of these link against vte).
+--------------------------+
Tue Jul 11 17:05:20 UTC 2006
xfce-4.3.90.2-i486-1rlw.tgz: Added to repository; I think the beta 2 release
of 4.4 is stable enough for everyday use now. Also, it seems to be a bit
more responsive than 4.2.x, and that's on my 650 MHz P3 laptop :)
Note that icons for kde applications still don't appear in the menu entries,
and I'm not sure exactly how to remedy that, but I think it's related to
the XDG_DATA_DIR environment variable. Cluesticks are welcome! :)
xfce4-goodies-4.4_20060711-i486-1rlw.tgz: complement to 4.4 beta 2 above -
note that you have to get these sources from the 4.4 directory from the ftp
panel plugins directory: ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/xfce-goodies/
+--------------------------+
Tue Jul 4 06:40:37 UTC 2006
sysvinit-2.86-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to sysvinit 2.86.
This package is part of the "new udev and friends" group. I've submitted
the build files to PiterPUNK, and the package is working fine here, but
testing and feedback would be appreciated. In case you have problems,
the older 2.84 package is still in the same directory, and is named
sysvinit-2.84-i486-59rlw.tgz
+--------------------------+
Fri Jun 30 22:03:57 UTC 2006
k3b-0.12.16-i486-1rlw.tgz: Removed. This has been upgraded in the official
-current tree.
+--------------------------+
Fri Jun 30 20:22:41 UTC 2006
openoffice.org-2.0.3-i586-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to openoffice.org 2.0.3
In addition to the version upgrade, this also includes a few security fixes.
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2006-2199
http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=2006-2198

All users are advised to upgrade as soon as possible.
(* Security fix *)
+--------------------------+
Sat Jun 24 23:04:00 UTC 2006
wine-0.9.16-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to wine 0.9.16
k3b-0.12.16-i486-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to k3b 0.12.16
+--------------------------+
Fri Jun 23 19:57:50 UTC 2006
LimeWire-4.12.3-i686-1rlw.tgz: Upgraded to LimeWire 4.12.3
+--------------------------+
Fri Jun 23 18:21:14 UTC 2006
skipstone-0.9.6-i486-1rlw.tgz: Removed - this no longer compiles nor runs due
to the removal of mozilla from -current; if at some point the developers
fix it to compile against SeaMonkey, then it will be added back here.
+--------------------------+
Fri Jun 23 18:05:26 UTC 2006
icewm-1.2.26-i486-3rlw.tgz: rebuilt with a fix for .xinitrc
MPlayer-1.0pre8-i486-2rlw.tgz: rebuilt to fix a problem where the mplayer.xpm
icon wasn't showing up in the menu entries - I had originally used
mplayer-desktop.xpm for the link (I'm assuming that's what was there in older
versions of mplayer).
MPlayer-1.0pre8-i686-2rlw.tgz: Added a package compiled with
CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i686 -mtune=i686" for those who might want it.
octave-2.1.73-i486-2rlw.tgz: rebuilt to add a description in the top line of
the slack-desc file.
openbabel-2.0.1-i486-1rlw.tgz: upgraded to OpenBabel 2.0.1.
openntpd-3.9p1-i486-2rlw.tgz: rebuilt to fix a broken upgradepkg due to the
dialog script in doinst.sh. The default behavior now is to add the _ntp user
and group automatically if they don't already exist.
wpclipart-2.1-noarch-1rlw.tgz: upgraded to wpclipart 2.1. Note that the source
to this is now distributed as a zip archive; the SlackBuild script has been
adjusted accordingly.
xdrawchem-1.9.9-i486-3rlw.tgz: rebuilt against openbabel 2.0.1.
